The number of telecom subscribers in the country has crossed the 120 million mark for the third time. According to TRAI’s January-2019 report, the number of telecom subscribers in the country was 119.79 crore in December 2018. It grew to 120.38 crores in January 2019. On a monthly basis, the total subscriber base has increased by 0.49%. Earlier, in July 2017 and May 2018, the number of subscribers crossed the 120 million mark. The number of mobile subscribers stood at 118 crores in January, the report said. That was 117 million in December 2018. At the same time, the landline number has decreased in January to 2.17 crores. In December 2018, there were 2.18 crore subscribers. Reliance Jio has won the highest number of customers during the month of December 2018 to January 2019. The company added a total of 93 million new customers during this period. After this, the public sector BSNL bagged the second position with 9.88 lakh subscribers. Bharti Airtel got the third position with one lakh subscribers. In December, the number of customers in the company was reduced in December. Overall, 59 lakh new subscribers were added to this system in January 2019. During the same period, the number of newly added customers was around one crore. In the meantime, Vodafone Idea and Tata Teleservices lost 44 million subscribers.

Vodafone Idea, the country’s largest telecom company, reported 35.8 lakh subscribers in the same period, while Tata Teleservices lost 8.40 lakh subscribers. Public sector Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) lost 4,927 subscribers.
